`Two for the Road' is an interesting book because it not only condenses the experiences they have had on the road, but also provides the reader with a huge amount of information about the history and customs of small-town America/5(30). For the most part, the events from the book are all in place in the film. The only time I got sucked out of the movie was when Robert Duvall showed up and all I could think of was “There’s Robert Duvall!” No, there were two times, because Omar from The Wire also had a cameo. The book was bleak and unforgettable when I closed it. McCarthy's The Road, a much more recent novel, reflects fears of nuclear or environmental holocaust. In his book, civilization as we know has been wiped out by some sort of catastrophic event. In the Book: In the Movie The fear of being seen was more clearly portrayed. They would sit out in the open. The boy and father follow a group of two men and a pregnant woman to see if they are safe.
